District Sports 2019

District Sports 2019, a report by Abi and Jack in Year 5

First things first, District Sports is a big competition held at Gosling Sports Stadium.

When we arrived, all the other schools were there too. Nerves were settling in, but we were all ready to try our best and smash it! First up was all of the field events such as long distance running, tennis ball throw and the beanbag throw – we made it through! After this was the beanbag shuttle and low and behold…we won! Then to the sprints and relay races. The Year 5 and Year 6 relay races went incredibly well with fast and smooth baton changes.

Next was the presentation. They went from 9th to 1st and we came (Drum roll please) …first place!

Taking the trophy, we went on a celebration run around the stadium to cheers and claps. What a great day!

Marvellous Mayan Masks

During the past few weeks, Year 5 have been looking at Mayans. Recently, they have been looking at Mayan masks and have created their own to showcase their understanding. 5C and 5S have all taken part in this activity and they enjoyed making the masks. It was quite difficult as they were making the masks out of clay and needed to work quickly, but Year 5 enjoyed the challenge! We used various tools and strategies to create the best masks possible. Pupils from 5C and 5S said “My favourite part about the mask was designing, carving, adding 3D parts and shaping it”.

Glee Club amazes at The Galleria

Last Friday, Glee Club (the school’s choir) had a trip to the Galleria. They sang a variety of songs to raise money for The Willow Foundation (Willow is a national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to fulfil uplifting and unforgettable Special Days). It was an amazing experience for our young musicians as they sang for their audience. Here are some quotes from people who went on the trip. ”It was really fun and exciting, we tried our best and the results were fabulous”.

“It was a phenomenal show and the audience really enjoyed it and so did I”.
