English

At De Havilland, English is built around equipping our children with the skills to be confident, independent learners who can share and discuss their ideas, stories and opinions effectively.  Embedding habits and attitudes of curiosity, confidence and independence where children are able to grow as articulate individuals.

Our aim is for children to use the foundation of these accomplished language skills to influence their writing; creating skilled and imaginative pieces of writing for a wide range of contexts and purposeful outcomes relating to the world around them stimulating others to be inspired, to think and to question.  Within reading we develop these skills to nurture a lifelong passion for reading.  To allow children to become confident and skilled readers who are able to develop their understanding through critical thinking, questioning and discussions to drive their knowledge further.  Most importantly giving our children the understanding of the beauty of reading to build communities and empower individuals, allowing them to believe they can reach their potential and succeed.

These English skills are equipping our children with the qualifications to thrive within the world, preparing them for a lifetime of learning.
